Reads- Lease of Oakley rectory. Work at Oakley mill. Meeting with Day: he promises redress of all grievances; towing path to be staked, so Navigation will be obliged for own sake to keep banks in order; tenants shall be paid an annual rent for land used as paths (unless he can prove examption by Act or by award); and we shall be paid rent for path at mill head. Satisfied about withdrawal of leave to dig goll (?) [gault?]. We shall have to widen Castle Mill overfall next season. Told Gudgin he can't stay at Ridgmont; terms. Harvest finished; men to spare in every parish; striking proof that pop. is over-abundant; many out of work in Ridgmont, Crawley, Eversholt.
