  • Scope and Content
Reads- Arrears: it is pretty certain no tenant in arrear will bring any to rub off the old score; will try after audit & get each one to make future arrangement; Tween mentioned a few cases for favourable consideration, possibility of compounding for a proportion. I have told Purser his rent would not be altered, but that a sum would be given him in consequence of the late wet years - £150; he is satisfied. Crouch. Division of Rock's land - 2 fields next turnpike road (details). Position at Willington mill; they carried on after the old man's death; can go on with understanding that whenever we take in hand to rebuild the mill they must expect to leave. Roote; a little better; got out yesterday; is dejected; I imagine he has involved himself in difficulties from which he can't extricate himself. Fletcher: ought to assign his property to honest people who will account for effects before harvest; if suffered to reap & may walk off with all proceeds- he never had enough capital. If I ever want legal advice, shall I apply to Sharman, successor of Budd, or is there any other attorney at Bedford you would wish to employ? The George; repair roof this year; present rent £100. Propose Duke spends £1,000 and rent be £120. Other lettings.
