- Date free text11 Nov 1830
- Production dateFrom: 1830 To: 1830
- Scope and ContentReads- Disgraceful proceedings in Kent etc. have reached our neighbourhood. Last night several corn-ricks at Hoare's new farm nr. Holcutt burnt. I went this morning & saw young Hoare; everyone thinks it arson. It was discovered by Howe & Sibthorp of Walton who were returning from Newport; they rode round by Salford & gave alarm 1-2 a.m. Fortunately the wind shifted. A clover rick, 2 beans, 2 wheat were burnt. Labourers from miles round came to help - exemplary. The Woburn & Newport engines were there in 1 hr.; ours was not; we did not know till 6. Still many unemployed in our neighbourhood. Lead stolen from Market House Monday (I suspect 2 labourers employed there).
