Note on the back by AGU reads 'The Firs, Ampthill, before being cut down in 1917. This picture happened to be in a set of old frames I purchased in 1947. the painter is Miss C A Smith but the frames had belonged to Mrs Stapleton of 16 Church Street, Ampthill. 20/3/58.'
