    For notes on the Swineshead Protestation return and Covenant, and copies of learned articles etc., see CRT 130 SWI 5. The original signed Covenant, dated 30 June 1644, found in the roof of the Rectory in 1846 and later presented to Trinity College, Cambridge, is now at the Cambridge C.R.O. (Huntingdon), ref: 2732/1. With it is a copy of an article on the Covenant by Rev. William Airy, written c.1850.

    The earliest entries were copied out from the original paper volume in about 1600 Entries from 1601-1635 and 1667-1688 signed by Rector (or curate) and two churchwardens Also contains: At front: note [on modern flyleaf] on the Protestation at the back of the volume and on the Covenant, signed by John Bruster, Vicar of Gatley, Manchester, who was present at the funeral of the Rev. Henry Matthews, Rector of Swineshead, 18 February 1898 At end of entries for 1653/4 and 1658/9: "Reg: [sent] to Kimbalton" and "After ye register came from Kimbalton" [These notes presumably refer to the handing over of the register to the Civil Registrar appointed in 1653, and to its subsequent return] At back: various notes on mutilated parchment pages; Note on the making of the Protestation return (with signatures) 16 January 1641; note on the curacy of Tho: Whishaw, 16 April 17.. [c.1713]; on Thomas Whitehand, Rector of Swineshead, 1639; On Edward Aspin, curate of Swineshead 1702-4, who "went to ye Vicarage of Melchbourn"; William King, curate, Michaelmas 1735, who also went to Melchbourne; Copy of order for registration and affidavits re burials in woollen, n.d.
