Scope and Content
Tween or Hirdle order work; (i.e., estate or abbey) Roote ascertains & specifies;
Tween or Hirdle approve; (exceptions : Duke, Adam) Roote executes;
Roote hires & discharges; (no increase unless sanctioned) maximum wage rate to be fixed;
Wages at a distance to be fetched by trustworthy person; (paid first); wage accounts to be kept separate from materials;
Fortnightly. wage accounts to be delivered to Tween, who will advance Hirdle cash in course of following week; ½-yrly material accounts;
Roote to keep a general price book with wages & materials; daybook showing receipts & deliveries; timebook showing each mechanic; journal to be made up fortnightly.
Stores: Roote to select, Tween & Hirdle order; quantities as large, & as much at wholesale prices as consistent with employing county tradesmen; useless materials to be sold.
Miller to act as Roote's clerk.
