    1) Rev.Henry Pearse, Rector of St.John’s, Bedford; Thomas Norman and John Turner, churchwardens; Arthur Thomas Simons and James Wilson, Overseers of the Poor – Trustees of the Charity founded for the benefit of the poor of the parish by the will of Thomas Welbourne [sic] dated 30 Aug 1716; 2) John Thomas Wilson of Barton, wheelwright Lease by 1) to 2) for 14 years from 29 Sep 1882 of a close of pasture in Barton called Burg-end Close (3/2/22) now in occupation of 2) excepting timber and saplings, minerals etc. at annual rent of £10; with penalty clause of £20 per acre for land ploughed or broken up without consent of 1) and clauses regarding husbandry Witnessed by James Pearse of Bedford, solicitor Note: details of a later lease dated 1897 (i.e. P 88/25/8) are over-written in red ink on this document
