    From: Thomas Woodward, Secretary and Deputy Registrar, London; To: Rev.Newcombe, Curate of Woburn "You will see by the 7th Head of the enclosed Paper that his Grace the Lord Archbishop hath directed the Bps of his Province to enquire concerning all Persons who presume to serve Cures in their respective Dioceses without Licence & to proceed to Ecclesiastical Censure agst them. Pursuant to wch Direction My Lord Bp of Lincoln hath informed Himself by the Archdeacons & their Registers of all the persons who officiate as Curate within the several Archdeaconrys. By return out of the Archdeaconry of Bedford, it appears that you are the person who serve [sic[ the Cure of Wooburne & it appears not by our Regr books that you have been Licensed to serve it. His Lordship therefore directs me to transmit to you the enclosed Paper & at the same time to admonish you that you presume not any longer to officiate as Curate without Licence, contrary to the Canons of the Church & this enforcement of them by the Authority of his Grace the Lord Archbishop. And I am further directed by his Lordship to acquaint you that for easing you & other Curates (Which have hitherto been irregular in officiating without Licence) of the Expence & trouble of a Journey to London, there will be sufficient Powers for granting these Licences at the Register Office in Huntingdon on the 26th day of July; provided you & the rest take care to be there the day before. The things wch you are to bring with you are your Letters of Ordin & Letters Testimonial to be drawn according to the Tenor of the 4th Head of the Enclosed Paper. If you find cause to returne any answer you may direct to the Ld Bp of Lincoln at Lambeth".
