  • Scope and Content
Duplicate of P65/28/1, with additional depositions by Ric. Johnson, John Ibbot and Wm. Peacock. Deposition of Ric. Johnson of Pertenhall, 75 yrs. For above 65 yrs. past he has gone with the minister and parishioners the out bounds of the sd. parish, and ever since they always in their perambulations took in Redmead and all the Lounds (except the close belonging to the rector of Little Staughton and a corner of Mr. Crow's Lounds next the sd. close); and that they made four crosses: one the bottom of Redmead on Stocking lease; a second on the top of Redmead, the corner next Staughton Field; a third at the bottom part of Lownds lane; and a fourth the upper end of the lane near Keysoe Gaps; and that he knows and remembers that they were always reputed and taken to be in Pertenhall, and were taxed and paid duties to the same, and as he has heard paid a composition for tithes. About 20 years ago the parishioners for their surer information had one Goodman Ashbolt, an ancient inhabitant of Little Staughton to go with them, and he agreed with them, and they then made their crosses in the same ancient places. Witn. John King. 30 May 1712. Deposition of John Ibbot, 72 yrs., confirming above. Witn. John King, Frances King. 27 September 1712. Deposition of Wm. Peacock, confirming above. 12 October 1713.
