- Scope and ContentSome occupiers signified unwillingness to continue amount so the new incumbent appointed Mr.W. Bainbrigge of Ashbourne to give a tithe value which he did. The incumbent declined the letting of his tithes. The collection of tithes was accomplished with difficulty, and after an uproar he was persuaded to call in "a gentleman of the neighbourhood ... acceptable to the payers" to make the best terms he could to restore peace. Mr. Rowed, land steward to Sir John Sebright, was appointed. Compromise reached at a low rate and the arrangement continued for seven years from 1829 to 1835. Under the Tithe Commutation Act the incumbent wishes a valuation to be made to reach a just rent charge for his tithes and its apportionment
