From: Thomas Sworder, Holly Lodge, Luton; To: Thomas Joseph Sworder, Hertford "I am glad Mr.Tuson [sic] has done the right thing at once. I shall be glad if you will send me the cheque. Booth & Co are going in for a Company & will give me a chance of 4 per ct debs & 5 per ct preference both at par so I think of applying for some. We have a new Surveyor of taxes & he is expecially looking up Brewers. In making my return for the Inc Tax I deducted from my return Int on Mortgages. This the Surveyor won't allow. I having deducted Tax from the Mortgagees. I was under the impression I was was right having allowed Tenants property tax on property in Mortgage. The extra tax would come to about £45 per anm, the question is can he demand tax for more than the last year? I enclose surveyor's letters which please return. The licenses (I think I wrote about) I should like to have by Wednesday morning as Mr.Green wants to attend the Bench for Transfer on that day".
