    Vivian George James SAUNDERS – Date of Birth 15 July 1927. Vivian G. J. spent his childhood at Kings Langley in Hertfordshire, and at his grandparents’ farm in Chipperfield, Herts. He served two years in the Home Guard at Kings Langley before being called up for military service. He enlisted at Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, on 20, September 1945, also serving at Colchester and Army Training Camp in North Wales. Record of Service: GSC 20.9.45 – 31.10.45 [GSC – General Service Corps] Bedfs & Herts. 1.11.45 - 19.05.48 Promoted A/Cpl. 28.07.46 Granted P/A/Cpl. 17.08.46 Granted W.S.rank of Cpl. 24.10.46 Promoted 17/Sgt. 29.07.47 Promoted P/17/Sgt. 29.8.47 WEF 29.07.47 Demobilised 19.05.48 In January 1946 he was awarded “Best Recruit Medal”. In February 1948 he was allotted a vacancy on course No. 2 at No. 2 Army College, Welbeck Abbey, near Worksop, Notts. Later in 1948 he joined the British Transport Commission Police Force, attending the British Railways Police School at Tadworth.He also attended a course of Instruction at the Metropolitan Police Detective Training School, Hendon, passing the Final Examination in the Theory and Practice of Criminal Investigation. He joined the Special Branch with the Rank of Detective Constable. He married Elfriede Emma von Geyer on 15 July 1960 and settled down at Newton Longville, Bucks.In 1970 he was awarded the medal for Exemplary Police Service. In 1972 he joined Insurance Brokers Bland Payne in Norwich, which later became Sedgwick, and finally March McLennan, Global Insurance Brokers. He retired in 1991 and died on 3 December 2003 at Priscilla Bacon Lodge in Norwich.
