  • Scope and Content
    (b) From C.H. Trethewy, Silsoe, to Rev. H.R. Meyer; "I have..conferred with Lord Cowper's solicitors with regard to the Reading Room..they are of opinion that matters had better remain as they are; as, if a new Trust is created, the object must be to carry out the provisions of the original Trust that the building be used for educational purposes only. As this is not the case, and as no objection has thitherto been raised to the purpose to which it is now applied, they think it would be unwise to move in the matter. I return you the deed which you sent to me dated 5 August 1836 and 29 Nove. 1852." 13 July 1903. (c) From Hon. Sec. of Committee of Men's Reading Room asking for permission to put in a grate and erect a chimney in the part of the Reading Room partitioned off for billiards, the cost be met from R.R. Funds now in hands of Treasurer. "Permission granted". 28 Dec. 1928. (d) From G. Bosanquet at Newstead. Hereford, to Mr. Wallace: "I am very sorry for this bother about the old school. The R.R. Cttee. have no right to it or claim upon it whatever....When I came the Boys' Sunday School was always held there, as well as the Boys' Day School.. It is only by an act of courtesy that the Reading Room lads are allowed to go there." 1929.
