Scope and Content
Historical notes mention the restoration in 1877 'since when modern improvements have been made'. Comprises:
- On the ground floor: vestibule, entrance hall, drawing room, dining room, study.
- On the first floor reached by a fine old oak staircase are seven best bed and dressing rooms. The larger ones include one 22ft by 16ft 6 ins 'at one time used as a billiard room, or it would make a capital day nursery'. Also large bath room, box room, heated linen cupboard, housemaid's closet and two WCs.
- On the second floor three servants' bedfrooms and spacious attic room.
- On the ground floor well shut off from the reception rooms, a large kitchen, scullery, butler's pantry, larder, servants' hall, wine cellar.
Water is obtained from two wells and is pumped into a tank in the roof. There is also extensive soft water storage.
Lighting is by acetylene gas from private plant.
Sanitary arrangemetns 'Care has been exercised in keeping these in good order, and the drainage is conducted to a cesspool well away from the House, the overflow pipe going to the stream. It was practically relaid in 1914 and certain improvements made in 1919.
Stabling of four loose boxes, washing box, motor garage, harness room, oil room, loft.
A good cottage containing sitting room, kitchen, scullery, two bedrooms, WC.
Beautiful old grounds and gardens with ornamental trees and choice flowering shurbs. Tennis and other lawns, rose garden with arbors, flower beds, herbaceous borders and shrubbery. Partly walled kitchen garden with lean-to glass house (heated) and forcing frames.
