Correspondence from Kirkman, Nat., Chenies to Daniel Beaumont: Reads- James Channer, who failed in business at Ampthill after long illness occasioned by fall from horse going to Bedford to support St.John (opposed by Ongley), settled 3-4 years ago at Chenies as grocer (woburn's family estate tenants 50 yrs). He was able to do this by liberal sub, headed by Duke, Ossory, Hardwicke, Holland. I let him part of the land I occupy (inconvenient). Have had notice to quit, though I erected buildings. Extraordinary proceedings, inconsistent with liberal spirit which has actuated the noble house of Bedford
