Scope and Content
Regular expenditure on bell-ropes, salary of parish clerk, ringers etc., cleaning plate and linen, and other payments for minor repairs. Unusual items include:
1731 Purchase of an almanack [recurs annually]
1736 Churchwardens' expences to see the Bishop at "Bugden"
1740 "Paid for a bag to put the Surplis in" 1s. 5d.
1746 Various references to plague among horned cattle
1751 Repairs to church and steeple, cost £9 7s. 6d.
1754 Payment to Robert Shaw of £18 14s. 6d., followed by Vestry resolution that no Churchwarden should order "any new erections or alterations in the Church" without the consent of the Vestry.
1758 Payments for sparrows - vermin.
1759 Minor repairs to Clock
1773 Charges "going to Bletchley with the man with the broken leg"
1774 Repairs to Churchyard wall
1775 "for mending the Communion cup", 3s.
1787 Payments to Thomas Hardwick, clockmaker, for keeping the clock in order [continues annually to 1814]
1788 Repairs to bells and fittings
1790 Third and fifth bells recast at Wootton
1792 Churchyard walls etc. 7 days labour cutting the hedge, and brick and large stones bought for repairs to fence.
1795-1797 Churchyard fence. Paid for "doing the fence round the Church yard and for Bushes". Repairs to gates. Further purchases of bushes in 1796-7. Oak timber for fencing, 1797
1805 New Surplice, £3 Os. 2d.
1807 Paid the Archdeacon for examining the Church; Payments for repairing "the Musick instruments for the Church".
1809 Repairs to Brickwork [further ref: in accounts for 1811-12]
1811 John Farmer paid £5 15s. for repair of Bell and Steeple windows and top of tower
1823-1826 Extensive repairs to the Church at a total cost of £559 6s. 5½d. [few details of work given]
1827 Purchase of plated wine flagon and metal plate, £1 15s.
1830 Repair of Church Clock, £5. Theft of lead from Church.
1835 Purchase of candlesticks - two branches for Church pulpit
1842 Repairs ordered by the Archdeacon, cost £30
