Scope and Content
Purchased in 1815 with money left by John Costin and Richard Furness and consisting of a cottage with barn, garden, orchard and 2 closes of pasture containing 1 acre 2 roods. The land was let to Skilleter for £12 a year. He built a new house on it and paid a quit rent of 5s? a year for 40 years. The new house was licensed as a beerhouse off-licence. The house then became the property of Bunyan Trustees who sold the whole to the Duke of Bedford for £600 in 1895. It was later sold to Wells & Co for £675 in about 1905.
