  • Scope and Content
Reads- The farm in Eversholt & Tingrith, late James Gregory, is an enclosed dairy farm, 78 a. O r. 4 p. It is now rented by Adam Quarry at £70. I believe it belongs to Dr. Leith who lives in Scotland. Tenant has no lease, only a letter from Leith, 1775, in which Leith says he bought from Mrs. Eliz. Gregory her right of dowry in the farm, and agrees to let the farm to Mary & Thomas Mayes and Adam Quarry during Eliz. Gregory's life; tenant to pay land tax and keep buildings in repair, having liberty to cut timber. Mary Mayes is dead and Quarry married her daughter. The buildings are mean and very old; greater part of walls clay in bad repair; thatched; it is a pretty farm, and the land lies together and very near the house; but Duke has no land that joins it, so no improvement can be made. Tenant is very industrious and willing to continue on present terms. Mr. Shaw values timber at about £70 - some trees in spinney and a great many old pollards & some young trees growing in the hedges (few of any size). A barn was blown down by the late high wind. Particulars follows: 3 closes in Tingrith; 8 closes, spinney, 2 roods common field land in Eversholt.
