- Scope and ContentFrom: Thomas Sworder, Luton; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford “I enclose you cheque for £352.14.9. The account I cannot send as Mr Bennett has the ledger at Dunstable. I also enclose order on London & County Bank for £50 on my own account. Can trustees of a Turnpike Road let Tolls at a meeting not specially called for that purpose? A customer of mine was anxious to have a chance of taking the Luton Tolls but they were let privately to the same party that has had them for some years. W Medland is still in prison but I hear he expects to be released shortly, when the act is passed abolishing imprisonment for debt. From what I hear from Mrs Medland is he’s been very ill.”
