From: Thomas Sworder, Luton; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "I got Mr.Cowell to write to his cousin respecting a secured Brewery place for Edward and I today received the letter on the other side. I never heard of a place called TRUNCH so I referred to the Norfolk Directory and found that it is 3 miles from North Walsham and 19 from Norwich and is a parish of some importance arising mainly from the large malting and Brewing establishements. The property of Mr.Primrose Esq who owns a great portion of the land and whose family date their residence in this place as early as the 15th Century. From the above it would appear to be a respectable place. If you think it worth attention you had better communicate with Mr.Primrose at once stating you were recommended by Mr.Cowell. This Mr.Cowell is Brewer at the same Brewery where long John went to. The meeting was held last night respecting the purchase of your house by the Board where I am told there was an overwhelming majority in favour of buying the whole clump of houses. This is what the majority of the Board have always been anxious to carry out.” From: G Cowell, Westgate Brewery; 30 Nov 1866 To: Thomas Sworder, Luton “My cousin Mr.Charles Cowell named to me that you were desirons of getting your son into a Brewery as asistant Brewer. Mr.Philip T Primrose, Trunch Brewery, Norfolk wants a young man to brew Bitter ales in time. It is a small Brewery but might be worth his while.”
