- Scope and ContentFrom: Thomas Sworder, Luton; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford “I enclose you cheque for rent less taxes as per statement on the other side and return Trethewey’s letter. The rent paid by the Brewery for the Rising Sun is £20 a year and the term Messrs Anstee & Co. have on it is 6 years from Michas next. The value put upon it was £400 and there has been £200 laid out on it since, which you are of course entitled to the benefit of on the expiration of the lease. The house was put in good repair about a year ago. The tenant pays the Brewery £16 a year, so that there is very little loss in this respect. The number of barrels sold in the ½ year ending 1st October last, when the present tenant took it was 68 ½ and the number sold from 1st October to July / 66, 99 ½ barrels. The fixtures belong to Anstee & Co. – they don’t know what to ask but consider they ought to have 1/3 what the house is worth – that is if you get £600 they ought to have £200. You had better get all you can for your interest and leave Trethewey to settle with Anstee & Co. afterwards.” £ s p Rent - 383.2.6 Taxes Sargood 16.8 Lawrence 5 Rudling 5 Rumbles 5.11 Puddephatt 2.14.0 4. 6. 6 By cheque £378.16.0
