Benning has asked us about the rent of Burr's Property & wishes us to pay him. Will you kindly give us authority to do so". From: Thomas Sworder, Hertford; 23 Oct 1862 To: Benjamin Bennett "I beg to acknowledge the Rect of 2 Pro Notes - one for £2,000 & one for £68.15.0 for the remg half of my divd on the Luton Brewery Estate. You are very welcome to pay Mr.Benning for Burr & Crabb the rent due to me on lease to 29 Septr & all future rent until fur notice on condition that Mr.Benning sends me immediately after its Receipt two separate Receipts under the 2 different Leases. I have also to request you to send to me a Cheque for the 6/- per Barrel agreed upon with Mr.Everitt on all the Beer sold for you in the Houses not on lease to you since 1 May /62 viz. The Crown Luton 200 barrels King’s Arms Luton 106 barrels Wheel plough 110 barrels Windsor Castle 60 barrels Half Moon Pepperstock 60 barrels Plough Kensworth 48 barrels Crown Dunstable [blank] [Total] 584 barrels You will know the exact no of Barrels from your Books sold by the Houses since 1 May /62. I also require 6/- per Barrel for ale Houses not let to you by Lease but which you supply and which are mtged to me. Pray see to this directly as it is very important to me. My nephew can tell you these last Houses but I cannot yet. Globe at Dunstable.[?] Do you want your Mtge for £700 pd pff? If so, send me full particulars of estates in mortgage - value Rents &c & I will try to do it. Pray let me hear directly as to the 6/- per Barrel with Cheque not with a check".
