- Scope and ContentFrom: Thomas Sworder, Luton; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "I send no answer to this" T.Sworder Senr." "Nicholson & Co served with me with a notice in Bktcy last evg & Smith & Laxton to whom I owe £500 for goods had during the last month were down & said they shd have all or none as they never yet took my money of me. I was afraid of these parties & others as I wrote you on Monday. Of course had I anticipated anything like this I should have confined myself to parties entirely with whom I have dealt with for a long time. I am going to Town to see Nicholson & others today & think of proposing 10/- in 3, 6, 9 & 12 months. If you are disposed to say you will take the same dividend & will write me by the earliest train you can directed to me at Mr.Rd.Moss King William St Strand London Bridge I would at once see H.Vyse & see whether some immediate arrangement cannot be made instead of allowing the affair to go into Bktcy which at worst inevitably will & then there won't be scarcely a sixpence after disposing of the mortgage claims. The Brewery might be kept on under inspection & if all went on well you could have at any time a share in the Business either for Teddy or a share or the whole to be disposed of. You would only now be making a sacrifice in order to save the property from ruin. I should also like to know how the matter as to the £2,500 of H.Vyse stands. I believe you can stop him by getting your agents to apply to Moss for particulars of the property under Mr. Rd. & old Mr.Vyse's wills stating it is for an advance on the share to pay H.Vyse off. I go to Mr. Rd Moss, the Brewy Valuer as he has so much influence with most all the London parties I deal with & I shall get him to help me. Charles has agreed to take Dowlais so that thorn will be out of my side".
