- Scope and ContentFrom: Thomas Sworder, Luton; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "I have just heard from Mr.Scargill (Medland's partner) that William Medland wants me at Bedford on Tuesday, the assize day. He is at loggerheads with Lett who was formerly at Thompson & Debenhams. I have written to William by this post to tell him to write to you whether I shall be required. I have not heard anything of him since he went into Lincolnshire & was quite surprised this afternoon when Mr.Scargill asked me whether I had received a letter from Mrs.Medland to ask me to go down to Bedford. I hope it won't be inconvenient to you not to come on Tuesday shd William require my services. Lett was locked up for contempt of court in some Chancery Business in which Medland & Scargill are engaged & Lett is going to indict Medland for perjury. Lett I fear is rather out of his mind. He has only just got out of a law suit with his Brother".
