  • Scope and Content
From: Thomas Sworder, Luton; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "I told you that I thought it most probable that I should have to go to London on Thursday & that I would write to you as soon as I heard from Mr.Hyde, whose client came up from the Country to meet me. My Mother & Caroline went to London on Wednesday, I found some lodgings for them when I was in Town on Thursday in Mornington Crescent near Euston Square but have not heard whether they have gone there. I hear I will send the Cheque & Disclaimer. I saw Lucy on Thursday, she looked very sadly, but in very good spirits. She rode up from Southgate that morning, so no doubt she was tired. I suppose Keale is not out of Hertford yet. The Valuation of the Property is not yet quite completed. Mr.Saunderson will be down in a few days to go thro it & the week after next I hope to let you have the amount. I could not pay Messrs Burr & Crabb the Interest just now. I have had to pay to the Hertford Bank on John's account & to him, lately, sufficient to have paid the Interest and now it is the heaviest time for stock both of Malt & Beer; all the vats being now full. On referring to what I paid last year & this for malt I find I have paid £1,600 more for the 6 mos ending today than the corresponding 6 mos last year. I am sorry to hear that Aunt is suffering from Influenza, it is such a lowering complaint".
