From: Thomas Sworder of Hertford, at Luton; 18 Nov 1858 To: Burr & Crabb "I propose to borrow £10,000 including the £2,500 now paid this day on security of the Crown, the Black Swan & the Griffin Public Houses and on my Berden Estates and to pay the money to Messrs Burr & Crabb on the understanding that the sum of £10,000 so borrowed is repaid out of the first sale of the Brewery Property but Messrs Burr & Crabb to keep all the Title Deeds, to the above mentioned Estates after the £10,000 is paid off as a Security for the residue of the money due to them".
