  • Scope and Content
From: Thomas Sworder, Ramsgate; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "I received your Letter here this morning. I went home for 2 or 3 days last week & left my wife & family here in order that the Children might go home as well as possible. They are now I am happy to say pretty well again. Old Mr.Vyse is staying here but I have not had an opportunity of speaking to him yet, but hope to have today. Last week he was not well & was obliged to call in a Ramsgate Doctor. His own comes down to see him twice a week. I have not heard from H.Vyse or Moss since you wrote to the latter. H.Vyse has returned from the Continent & has taken a house at Brighton for the season. I had of Rookley £1,500 at the time I had trouble for the Welch affair and of course he wants it at an inconvenient time. I was in hopes he would have let Dorrington have the money without troubling me at present, as I told him before I left home I could not pay it without great convenience [inconvenience?] just now. He has no security for the money except just a Prom note of myself & Robert & wants a guarantee that it shall be forthcoming on 1st March next. Robert will be with me at Luton I expect on Wednesday. We all go home tomorrow, at least I hope now there will be nothing to prevent. I shall be glad to hear whether you will be over this week to meet him so perhaps you will drop me a Line so that I may receive it on my return tomorrow. I have heard nothing more of the parties in London respecting the Partnership. Bennett of Dunstable is anxious to get one of his sons into the Brewery & says he can find £4,000. I tell him that won't be enough. Now John has left Dowlais I hear, I think he has taken leave of his senses. He wanted to be master without any of the responsibilities".
