    From: William Medland, Dunstable; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "You will be surprised I dare say to hear that I have just received your kind note upon my return from Broadstairs. I thought I would not rely upon reports but go and look for myself and certainly I have been well repaid as I found Tom I am thankful to say looking so much better and in spirits also. I left Broadstairs at ½ past 8 o'clock and got home here at 5 o'clock and came all the way from Ramsgate indeed Broadstairs I should say home to my own door for 10/- and I can hardly believe I am now writing this in my office. Well I am pleased you had such a pleasant visit in Wales but with regard to Robert if you should decide about his coming back to Luton, pray impress upon him the necessity of his keeping out of the society that frequents the "George". I shudder at the idea myself as I well know his past conduct even now makes Tom's credit shaky and I am sadly afraid he will if he returns get to his old friends again. You do not know the parties of course, I do, which makes me answer yours by return. I'm sure I have no ill feeling towards Robert on the contrary or I should wish him to return to Luton so concerned am I that if he does it will be a sad day's work. I write this privately as I do not think I should be acting right to you if I did not let you know my opinion upon the subject, if it is not worth much. I have told Tom the same only this morning, when he introduced the subject. I am sorry your dear wife cannot visit us. How can you go on so together we are obliged to follow your example so pray stop. Tommy & Ted I shall send for on Saturday. I think they will like the Horses better than the Omnibus and I don't mind the trouble. I shall have lots to tell you about my Brother Armstrong when we meet which I hope will not be long".
