  • Scope and Content
From: Thomas Sworder, Broadstairs; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "I am afraid it would not be of much use making the offer you propose to Mr.Moon's friend. The liabilities I referred to were as to Burr's property, which would perhaps frighten a party from joining me until that was settled. I thought it would be better for the Freeholds to be rented by the Firm & so the £10,000 would be paid down for the working capital. I should say this would be a more tempting way for anyone. Next month 30th Sep is the annual stocktaking & making up the rent accs so I shall know how the Brewery has worked for the past year. I have bought some books here & was yesterday trying to see how I could make out how matters stood from Michas last but I was obliged to give it up. I thought perhaps I could make up a statement to put before Mr.Moon & get him to request in what way I had better make the offer to his friend. I have an application for the Welch farm, he has been for some time a customer of mine & as well as a publican he has a small farm near Luton. The great House (or the materials) wants moving to the farm Buildings & I should have done it had I money that I did not know what to do with. The party who is going down would not be so very particular about Buildings these would be a great obstruction to many parties. I am just going to walk over to Margate as there is a Regatta going on today so perhaps I shall see Major Skinner".
