  • Scope and Content
From: Thomas Sworder, Luton; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "I spoke to Mr.Eyre about the Mortgage of Throcking some time back. Notice had better be given on or directly after the 23rd in case the money is not required by the Purchaser. I quite intended being over today, but it has been so wet that I was afraid to venture, my Doctor having given me strict injunctions to avoid colds as far as I can as he says without great care my relaxed throat will lead to Bronchitis. With regard to Page I think you cannot do better than follow the agreement. It is not well to let him sell off hay the last year without he is intitled [sic] to do so according to the agreement. He & Cornell must buy it & I think it is very probable that they will do so. Moon has not sent his friend yet. I wish he would make haste about it. I am afraid that Brewery agents stand in the way, as I did not employ one of them in the purchase. There is no doubt they have a great deal of power for good or evil, as they are consulted by most parties in connexion with Breweries. Ellen & baby are going on very well. I was in London on Thursday & came in the omnibus from Hatfield with Fanny & Co they had tea with me & o then sent them over. Fortunately the Brigade affair came off yesterday instead of today. It would have been a complete failure as it was it was cold & wet in the Evening but there must have been 5,000 persons on the ground. Fanny says you are coming over soon".
