- Scope and ContentFrom: Thomas Sworder, Luton; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford I have been up to London again about the Dowlais Brewery but have not yet anything settled I hope however to hear from Mr.Rawes on Monday whether he means having it or not. I wish to goodness it was settled as Benning is continually afret me about the other matter stating the Exors must have £5,000 to go on with. There is no Lease of Throcking farm, but there was a memorandum given to Page I believe agreeing to grant a Lease for 14 years from Michas 1850 at the Rent of £220 per annum. This Memdum I do not find with my papers. Messrs Trinder & Eyre stated their Client would not be willing to let the £10,000 remain on the property it would not do to give them notice without there was a good chance of the farm being sold. Mr.Leigh whom I have seen states he is so short of money just now having advanced a large sum to put another son in Allsopps Brewery. I asked him whether he would entertain an offer of this sort. Lease for 14 years at £525 per an with option of purchase within first 5 years. He said he would consider about it. Do you think this would be worth while doing if so I will send him an offer in writing. No doubt he would soon pay down the money if he once made an agreement".
