  • Scope and Content
From: William Medland, Luton; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "I have got Tom £1,500 and I am prepared to settle at once, but part of the security is the Globe Public House in this Town and the Deeds are now at the Bank and Mr.Bigg will not give the Deeds up relating to that property unless he has a bill from you to say he may as he states that you made yourself responsible for £2,000 upon the understanding that if called upon for the money, the bank should hand the Deeds over to you, therefore please write by return as my Client will be glad to get the matter settled PS I was much grieved to read John's letter to Tom the other day. I say John's letter I might say his writing for he could not in my opinion write such a one, it was his friend Mickly who wrote it I feel certain after meeting John in the Train. Why Tom after pays him the Beer account & rent will owe him hardly anything [?]. Strangers will do more for Tom & than his would be called Brother. I can assure you I trust I may never see him again".
