- Scope and ContentFrom: Thomas Sworder, Luton; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "The Sale has not produced so much as I expected, the weather was against it & the Hops would not sell at any price. On the whole there is not however much to find fault with. I think it will amount to near £1,000. The Unity affair I should be glad to renew if you have no objection for 3 months as the Railway Company are not yet in a position to pay me for the Fox. I am sorry you cannot come over next week. I shall be at a Railway meeting in London on Wednesday perhaps you may be up on that day. I hope to be able to pay into the Bank a heavy sum this month the receipts for Xmas Bills have up to this time been very small indeed. The Farmers won't shell out now corn is so low. You don't say anything about the Deed of Coleman's property. I am afraid I won't be able to meet them. I have not yet heard further from Morland & Godfrey. Poor Sydney Vyse is dead. Edmund had a letter from one of his Brother officers. He was struck by a shell in his groin [at the siege of Lucknow?] & [unreadable word] him a short time after. He was buried a "Gungerell" [?] on the same day"
