  • Scope and Content
From: Thomas Sworder, Luton; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "Tuesday Mg I send you on the other side copy of a letter received from Mr.Moss in answer to one from me enclosing a letter I received from Mr.Benning on Friday on my return home stating that Mr.Crabb came last Wednesday expecting the Agreement would be completed & asking him whether he would ask Mr.Vyse to advance the money on the deposit of the Deeds with an undertaking to execute an assignment. There is however no desire on their part to help me in the least. Benning came over for the answer yesterday morning & to satisfy him I then executed agreement & gave him an undertaking to pay the money on receiving it from the Exors. I have had a letter from William Medland asking me to go with him & you to Paris. He comes home today. I am sorry however that I cannot have the pleasure of accompanying you both just now as I have my hands full". From: E.Moss, Moorgate Street, London 1 Aug 1857 To: Thomas Sworder, Luton "In reply to yr Lre of yesterday's date I can only state that in any other than a trust matter or than where such precise instructions have been given I should have been happy to have complied with yr request and I am sure any recommendatn would not be acceded to by Mr.Hy Vyse therefore do not deem it prudent to ask him. By the time Mr.Benning returns no doubt everything will be in order and at a saving of expense. I return Mr.B's letter as requested PS Mr.Benning says in his letter he wants to go out for 10 days & the non-settlement will detain him here".
