  • Scope and Content
From: Thomas Sworder, Luton; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "I am much obliged by your forwarding me valuation. I have since seen Messrs Burr & Crabb their price is much above Medcalf's, they want £52,000 but I have no doubt will take less. I told them I must take time to consider as I had only just received the Valuation. They have not decided on what sum they can have on mortgage, but will let me know if there is any chance of coming to terms. I do not think it would answer the purpose of any one to give the sum asked by the Exors, & I think they will find great difficulty in meeting with a customer for the whole concern, except they come down to near Medcalf's valuation which is quite as much as it is worth. There is no doubt the property is very valuable in Luton, & I have no doubt it will still increase in value when we get the Railway open & the effects of the war have been obliterated. I hope you will be able to come over on Saturday if so perhaps you had better see Medcalf & tell him the sum asked for the concern. I hope he is fast recovering from his accident & able to get about again. I hope Aunt is better. PS Medcalf has increased the Value of my Brewery & houses 25 per ct taking Burr's as a criterion there is no doubt I came here just the nick of time for purchasing".
