- Scope and ContentFrom: Thomas Sworder, Luton; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "It was certainly a foolish thing both for Uncle John & myself to make such a mistake as we were guilty of. Robert said he thought the account could not be right but could not point out the error. I well know that I was pretty well frightened when the second Bill came back unpaid & it was then I sent in the account in which I made the mistake. I will send a cheque to meet the Bill due on the 26th. I presume you will not let the Bill go out of your hands if you do I must give notice to retire it at the Bank. If you do not particularly want some money just now on a/c of Int it will suit my Books better as I have plenty to pay this month & the receipts are not very grand. In consequence of my wife's father's death she is entitled to a 10th of about £120,000, sufficient to produce £150 a year for each of the daurs & to be settled on them. I expect that £10,000 will be paid me before Xmas & I shall have to settle sufficient property to secure the £150 a year for my wife. I wish to see you as to this & shall probably be at Hertford on Saturday. The act is obtained for making the Railway to this Town & I should not be surprised to see the Station within a short distance of the Brewery as Land close by is offered for a moderate sum.
