- Scope and ContentFrom: Thomas Sworder, Luton; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "Abbotts seem now very anxious to get hold of the purchase money for the Welch property and it is not improbable that I may be called upon to pay it this month. They have not yet delivered their Bill of Costs so I do not know what will be required but suppose altogether I shall have to pay something like £4,000. As you were so kind as to offer to assist me in case of need I should be glad to know whether you will be able to let me have any money in case the business is to be settled this month otherwise I shall have to borrow the greater part of the money at the Bank. I expected a gentleman near here would have lent me about £2,000 but I do not expect he will have it paid off in time for me. I have been very fortunate in my Agents in this Welch matter as they have only charged me costs out of pocket. I could not have expected such handsome treatment from them as I was quite a stranger to them before this business".
