    Counterpart Marriage Settlement Parties: (i) John Bardolph of Bedford, maltster; (ii) Nathaniel Bardolph, son and heir of (i); Elizabeth Griffith, only daughter of William Griffith of Husborne Crawley, miller; (iii) William Griffith and Lawrence Cripps of Holcot, yeoman Operative Part: - in consideration of a marriage between (ii), for the advancement of Nathaniel Bardolph and the maintenance of Elizabeth Bardolph if she survived Nathaniel, and that it may pass to the issue of (ii); (i) granted (a)-(b) to (iii) Property: (a) messuage, formerly an inn called the Unicorn, Bedford, St.Paul, at the N end of the High Street, fronting E on High Street opposite N end of house and orchard of Thomas Christie; with malthouse and brewhouse; formerly in occupation of William Watmough, now John Bardolph; (b) yard or little plot of ground adjoining S end of (a) formerly in occupation of Edward Burrage, then William Browne, late John Bunnion (a)-(b) in possession of (iii) by bargain and sale of 28 May 1697 [an early example of Conveyance by Lease & Release] Habendum: - to (iii) to use of (i) until the marriage of (ii); after the marriage to use of Nathaniel Bardolph for life; remainder to Elizabeth Bardolph for life for her jointure; remainder to issue of (ii); remainder to heirs of Nathaniel Bardolph Witnesses: - Ambrose Reddall; - Edward Griffith
