- TitleInformation of Superintendent William Bedlow also an Inspector appointed to carry out the provisions of the Sale of Food & Drugs Act 1875 who purchased 1 and 1/2 pints of Gin from William Alexander, Publican of Biggleswade. He gave notice that it was his intention to the Gin analysed by Dr Thomas Stevenson, medical Doctor of Guys hospital in the County of Middlesex. The sample contained parts or percentages of foreign ingredients, i.e. water, over and above that contained in 35% under proof Gin - 4 & 1/4 %. This was a diluted article of the strength of 39 & 1/4% under proof. Fined 10/-. costs 8/6
