He was concerned with the restoration and enlargement of the parish Church, 1859-60, new church schools, 1869, new organ and rehanging the bells, All Saints Mission Church, Girtford, 1885, new cemetery, 1891, and the Church Room, 1912. He divided his glebe land into allotments to encourage market gardening, and he was involved in the first Flower show held in the park of Sandye Place in 1868.
