  • Title
    Four colour photographs of longcase clock made by James Pepper of Biggleswade, purchased at auction in 2006, and restored by master-clockmaker Robert Loomes in 2007, who estimated that it was made c1720-1740. The clock is now owned by a direct descendant of the maker. James Pepper I, working 1720-1767 was the first of the Pepper clockmakers, eight of whom worked in Biggleswade, James I, II and III, John I and II, Henry I and II, and George. Charles Pepper, (brother of George) was the clockmaker of Potton and Edward opened a shop in Royston High Street. A tavern clock made by “James Pepper Bigleswade” was working in Southill Baptist Chapel in 2007.
