    From: Thomas Sworder, Luton; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "The Valuations by Summers & Nash of the Stock &c at Westmill & Cottered I think you will find in the pigeon Hole S on your desk, opposite you as you sit. If not there it will perhaps be under (Sworder) behind you. Mr.Green sent me one part of the Agreement ready for Signature on Saturday. Mr.Bennett was to have been over here on Saturday to have signed it but he was so very busy. I sent Mr.Medland over this morning to make an appointment with him as I could not very well get away & he will sign the agreement on Wednesday. On Saturday I was very queer or should have gone over to Dunstable as I am anxious to get the Agreem't signed altho' I have no doubt about Bennetts being fixed. By a letter W.Medland received this morning I was glad to hear a more favourable account of the Cholera. Mr.Medland appears to have been very bad. Mr.Bennett offered to take W.Medland into Partnership for £1,000. Mrs.B. said she would not have it as she had had enough to do to manage her Husband. She thinks William would stand a good chance as Lawyer as both Pearse & Cartwright are disliked. I have written to B.Young to ask him to come over here to see the Brewery. he is the only one I have heard object to a Steam Engine. With Bennett's trade we shall have to use it 3 or 4 times a week. We must have either horse or steam power & as the latter takes up very little room we thought it better to have that. The expense of an engine would be somewhere about £100 more than horse power. Mr.Burr tells me that he is very much pleased with his engine. He has had his 3 or 4 years & would not be without it. Before that he has horse power. I understand Heard has been appointed Receiver to the Luton Hoo Estate. The Leighs cannot shoot, Mr.Ward having filed an injunction to prevent them".
