Report of PC Joseph Hebbes stationed at Biggleswade. He was on duty in Shortmead Street near the Peacock Beerhouse when he saw William Nelson, Labourer of Langford, very drunk, using very bad language and causing a lot of people to congregate. He had his hat off and all his clothes undone. PC Hebbes tried to persuade him to go home but he refused saying he wouldn't go until Sergeant Wheatley gave him back his Rifle and Bayonet. PC Hebbes told him he was not in a fit state to them back. He eventually staggered off up the street but later PC Hebbes saw him again in Mill Lane, again using bad language and disturbing the neighbourhood. Some of his friends were trying to get him away. Eventually they managed to take him away. Fine 10/-. Costs 8/6. In difficulty 14 days
