As he was already drunk, Mrs Doe refused to give him any more drink. He asked for her husband who had gone to bed after a hard day's work. Huckle grabbed the poker and started to beat the beam above his head to wake Mr Doe up. He repeatedly banged the beam and shouted loudly until Mr Doe came down.
