Report of Lizzie Hillyard, single woman of Biggleswade. Dr Thomas Turner came to lodge with her for 1 month to be paid weekly. He took a bedroom and sitting room. He did not pay her anything. Miss Pledger came and applied to him for money and she waited for him in his sitting room. when he saw her he went into Lizzie Hillyard's room and began abusing her saying ' Why did you let that d---- woman into my room for when people want me why not tell them I am not at home and cannot be seen'. Lizzie gave him notice to leave her house by 12 o'clock the next day. At 11 o'clock the next day she gave him written notice to leave. He came home in the evening and was talking to Sarah Ann Dilley and mentioned Lizzie's name. She locked her door and he shouted 'Hillyard I'll make this house too hot for you before morning' and tired to break the door down. He shouted ' Hillyard, open this door. I'll scorch you out of your room and bed before morning'. Lizzie left the house by a side window and went to Mrs Hale's and sent for Dr Butler to attend her. She had to have police protection all night. He lived in her house for a further week after this after he had been apprehended and bailed out. Bound in £20 for 6 months. Costs 14/-
