Abstract of title of John Gray and his mortgagee to Bute Arms, Peel Street, Luton "Lot 3" (I) Conveyance of 25 Jan 1844 Parties: (i) John Crichton Stuart, 2nd Marquis of Bute, 7th Earl of Dumfries; (ii) John Gray; (iii) George Gregory of Luton, farmer Operative Part: - (i) released (a) to (ii) for £289/16/- Property: (a) plot of land in Luton, formerly part of a pasture in occupation of John Jones bounded: SE by land of John Hunter; SW by part of same close of (i); NW by part of same close sold to John Cox; NE by new road called Peel Street; containing 46 perches; with right of way along new road called Wellington Street (on part of a close formerly in occupation of Francis Butterfield leading from George Street to Maze's Lane) and along Peel Street laid out on land formerly in occupation of John Jones from a lane running south into Wellington Street nearly opposite NE corner of land of Edmund Waller Habendum: - to (ii) to use of his will or other instrument, to use of (ii) for his life, to use of (iii) for the life of (ii) in trust for (ii), to use of heirs of (ii) for ever (II) Mortgage of 15 Aug 1846 (i) John Gray; (ii) Lovell Smeathman of Great Missenden [Buckinghamshire], surgeon Reciting: - since (I) (i) had built on (a) in (I) Operative Part: - (i) mortgaged (a) to (ii) for £6,000 at 5% interest Property: (a) plot of land in Luton, formerly part of a pasture in occupation of John Jones bounded: SE by land of John Hunter; SW by part of same close of (i); NW by part of same close sold to John Cox; NE by new road called Peel Street; containing 46 perches; with right of way along Wellington Street and Peel Street; (b) six messuages erected on (a) in occupation of Harrison, Sims, Samuel Brett, John Denby and John Pedly; (c) messuage erected on (a) in occupation of Charles Squires with slaughterhouse, stable and outbuilding
