Information and Application of Kate Giggle, Single Woman of Everton against Parker Danes, Farmer of Everton as the father of her bastard child born on 14 November 1883. Kate was helping Mr Danes' wife with her needlework. Whenever Mr Danes was away visiting he frequently fetched Kate from her house to do various jobs for him. He asked her to shell some beans in the attic and later came to the attic and had 'connection' with her. When he knew Kate was having a baby he said 'You must not make trouble over it I will see after you' and told her to go to London and get a room and he would come to her. He promised her £1 but did not give it to her. He took her to the Theatre at Girtford before Sandy Feast and told her to keep it quiet in the village. About 6 weeks before the baby was born he asked her how she was and if she was going in the Union. Kate replied 'Yes'. Danes said 'The Union be d-----d'. Report of Elizabeth Jeeves, of Sandy, wife of Allen Jeeves who saw them on Sandy Bridge in a trap. Danes had tucked Kate up and given her a kiss. Report of Elizabeth Giggle, wife of John Giggle and mother of Kate. Report of Mary Ann Jackson who was also in service at Mr Danes'. Report of Sarah Bone, widow living at Everton who was also at Mr Danes' house when Mrs Danes went away but did not remember seeing Kate there. Report of Eliza Knott, wife of John Knott, who had worked in the fields with Kate. Order 1/6 per week until child was 14 yrs old. Costs 17/-. Solicitors £2.2.0. Notice of Appeal given
