Conveyance of lands to trustees by claimants under Leighton Buzzard Inclosure, 10 May 1844 Parties (i) the several claimants (ii) John Mortimer of ‘Nares Gladley’ in Heath and Reach, farmer, Thomas Swinstead of Upper End Green in the same, farmer, and William Manning of the same, plait dealer. Recitals Parliamentary Act of 6/7 Vic.for the inclosure of land in the Parish of Leighton Buzzard which included a tract of waste land known as the ‘Heath’ which formed part of Leighton Buzzard and the hamlet of Heath and Reach. That (i) are possessed of and claim entitlement to several scheduled pieces of land in Heath and Reach being parts of the land subject to the above Act and have delivered claims to the Inclosure Commissioners for the same. That (i) have agreed that there should be made, in respect of their several claims, one aggregate allotment of land only in the hamlet of Heath and Reach or at the discretion of the Commissioners such other allotment(s) as may be most convenient for use and occupation, which allotment(s) should be vested in trustees upon the trusts declared below. Operative part Conveyance from (i), according to their respective estates and interests, to (ii) all the above mentioned scheduled land with appurtenances habendum to (ii) upon declared trusts to solicit and procure an aggregate allotment as recited and to stand seised of the same upon such trusts etc. as (i) or their survivors shall direct or appoint and, in default of such appointment, for (i) in equal shares as tenants in common. The schedule lists 106 persons (name, and occupation/status recorded in each case) each of whom has signed/marked and sealed the document. The land of each person is recorded summarily by location (e.g. ‘Thrift’, ‘Stoneleigh (Abbey)’, ‘Tattle Hill’, ‘(Town) Croft’, ‘(near) Pound’, ‘Old Chapel’, and ‘Craddocks’) and area in perches. Acknowledged on the last (3rd) skin by TS who prayed the same be inrolled in Chancery; witnessed by a Master Extraordinary in Chancery, 23 July 1844. Endorsed with inscription of its inrolment in Chancery on 31 July 1844.
