Ecclesiastical parish created in 1977 from part of Luton, St. Mary. Note from depositor [c. 2007]: On June 1st 2006, there was a merger of what had been two separate ecclesiastical parishes to form the Parish of St. Anne with St. Christopher. It came about due to the fact that there have been more clergy retiring than entering the Church of England over recent years, and the fact that the new housing to be built in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire in the next seven years is equivalent to 29 new parishes, all of which will need staffing. So our parish now has a boundary of Vauxhall Way in the north-east, Devon Road in the south-east, Ketton Close, Hart Hill Lane, Pope's Meadow and Old Bedford Road in the west, and then runs just at the back of Honeygate and Bradgers Hill Road in the north. The parish has two parish churches of equal status, four churchwardens, and separate district councils to deal with local issues in each former parish area, and an overarching Parochial Church Council. Both parish churches are available for residents for marriages, funerals or blessings of children, and baptism of either children or adults. Baptisms take place in main public services, and at St.Christopher's they will normally be on last Sundays of the month at 9.30am and at St.Anne's on first Sundays of the month at 11am. Both buildings also have halls that are used by the community and uniformed youth organisations as well church organisations.
