    Will of Sir Matthew Skerne, vicar of Wootton. Wills his feoffees that if Matthew Homwode has no heirs, then his wife shall have 10 acs. of land for life; that if MH has heirs, lawfully begotten of his body, the 'place and land' with all appurtenances, is to go to such heirs and if no such heirs, to be sold [and disposed of] for John Homwode and his son Matthew and all that ?are most in need...; and if the said MH lies bed-ridden, the feoffees shall sell an acre of land per year for him to live 'thereby'; that MH's wife shall have the said 10 acs. whether there be heirs or not [?i.e. alteration of above provision] as was the will of John Homwode, deceased, father of MH. 10 May 35 Hen VI (1457). Seal (on tongue): round, red wax, part of L.H. side missing, clear impressiom, design as seal on X740/6. Dorse: inscribed 'This is the will for the Towne Land'. Transcription of above will: Thys ys tho wyll of Syr Mathew Skerne vycary of Wotton: un to hys feffees that 3yf hyt happene that Mathew Homwode hawe none heyrys thanne y wylle that hys wyfe schall hawe x acrys londe duryng her lyfe and 3yf the seyde Mathew heyrys have of hys body lawfully be gotyn thanne y wyll that tho place and londe with all hys aportenances for to goo to the seyde heyres and 3yf none heyrys comyn of tho seyde Mathew: For to be sold and done For John Homwode and Mathew hys sone and for all that hy[s......a] of ther as most nede ys for to be dysposyd: And 3yf hyt happens that tho seyde Mathew be y vysytyd by tho vysytacyon of god that he he [sic] lye bedrede' thanne y wyll that tho feffees schall selle every yere an acr' londe and tho seyde Mathew Skerne seyde Mathew to leve ther by: Also y tho seyde Mathew Skerne wyll that tho seyde Mathew Homwode ys wyfe schall have tho seyde x acr' londe duryng her lyfe come ther heyryes come ther non: For thys was tho wyll of John Homwode that ys now dede tho Fadur of Mathew Homwode that now ys thys wyll y made tho x the tenth day of may yn tho yer of Kyng Harry tho sext' after tho conquest xxxv [..].
